www.HistoryInYourOwnBackyard.com [email protected] 812-623-5727 On the south side of Kenosha, Wisconsin sandwiched between 18th and 22nd avenues you’ll find the beautiful Lincoln Park. In 1915, Emily Bond and Charlotte Bond, sold the City of Kenosha the first parcels for the park. Another portion was sold to the city by Sarah Lyman and her husband. In 1918 a wooden bridge was built across the lagoon with the park officially being named on October 6, 1919. The original wooden bridge began to decay and was replaced with the current bridge being formally dedicated on May 31, 1937, to the memory of Abraham Lincoln. The bridge was constructed as a W.P.A. (Works Progress Administration) project during the years of 1936 and 1937. The concrete deck girder bridge is 245 feet long and 10 feet wide. The main span is 146 feet from pier to pier and at the time of construction, it was the 2nd longest bridge of this type in the United States. GPS Location: 42°34'14.1"N 87°49'58.1"W
