Step back into the Wild West as we visit the humble beginnings of America’s most famous outlaw. Located in Circleville, Utah, this remote ranch is where Robert LeRoy Parker—better known as Butch Cassidy—grew up before leading the legendary Wild Bunch. In this video, we explore the original log cabin, the rugged Utah landscape that shaped his early life, and the history of the ranching family that raised a rebel. What you’ll see: The preserved childhood home of Butch Cassidy. Stunning views of the Utah desert and mountain ranges. Stories of Cassidy's transition from ranch hand to train robber. 5 Fun Facts (The "Hidden" History) The "Butch" Name Origin: He didn't get his nickname on the ranch. He got it later while working in a butcher shop in Rock Springs, Wyoming. His friends called him "Butcher Cassidy," which eventually shortened to "Butch." The Harmonica Outlaw: Butch was known for being incredibly charismatic. On the ranch, he was the primary entertainer, often leading his 12 younger brothers and sisters in song while playing the harmonica. The White Cloth Ceiling: To make the rugged log cabin feel more like a "civilized" home, Butch’s mother, Annie, tacked white cloth across the ceiling to catch the dirt and dust falling from the sod roof. The Great Chicken Prank: Local legend says the Parker kids once stole a neighbor’s wine and fed it to the ranch chickens. Butch’s mother allegedly came home to find the entire flock stumbling around the yard "drunk as sailors." A Secret Visit? His sister Lula Parker Betenson claimed that Butch didn't die in the 1908 shootout in Bolivia. She swore he returned to the Circleville ranch in 1925 to visit the family, sporting a new identity and a shiny new Ford.
