"Whispering Hope" is a tune that became quite popular in the post-Civil War years in the USA. It was published in 1868, penned by music store owner Septimus Winner (1827-1902). Septimus Winner wrote a number of quite popular tunes, some under the pseudonym of Alice Hawthorne, including the pupular fiddle tune, "Listen to the Mockingbird", "Where oh Where has my Little Dog Gone?", and "Ten Little Indians". His music has stood the test of time. "Whispering Hope" is included in many hymnals, although its author declared that he never intended the piece of music to be a hymn.
