Hello and welcome to my channel. This is the first episode in the full restoration of my 1978 Series 3 Land Rover 2.25 Petrol Short Wheel Base. I have owned my Land Rover for 25 years and it was my first car at school. After spending a long time off the road in a Nissen hut deep in the woods at my parents house, I decided to look at getting it working again. I had literally no idea how long this would take or indeed what would need doing, but it has been a dream of mine for years to get it back on the road; so I took the plunge and got started. The story starts here with a series of photos, but in the second or third episode I started to document the project with more video content. So please look out for the full restoration to date (it's not finished yet) on my channel My911: / @my911 The first step was to try and get the Landy to move under its own power, but one thing led to another and I ended up embarking on a full restoration of the vehicle. This includes a new galvanized chassis, full gearbox rebuild, refurbished bulkhead, new axles, engine work, body panels, paint etc, etc, etc. There is no part of this vehicle that I have not worked on and the amount of knowledge and experience I have gained along the way has been phenomenal. I am not a trained mechanic and everything I have learned has either come from the manual, the internet or by talking to the shear number of enthusiasts I have got to know world wide. Even now, I am still calling people for advice, but through what I have learned over the past four years I am also able to pass my knowledge on to others. I hope it helps. If you have ever wanted to start a restoration project of your own, or have an old Land Rover in a shed somewhere and need a bit of encouragement to start, my advice is to just do it. The sooner you start the sooner it gets done, and it will take longer than you think. There will be times when the project is frustrating, but in my experience the good times far outweigh the bad. It's important not to rush the project and to give yourself time to save for parts and to plan the work logically. You will also need to work out which suppliers you can trust and my advice is not to scour the internet for the cheapest parts available. They will only let you down and you will have to replace them later on. Believe me, I've been there. I hope you enjoy the videos and thanks for watching. Feel free to contact me via my channel email.
