The Western Lariat Stan Hansen is one of the greatest, if not the greatest foreigner in history of wrestling in Japan. He was bigger in Japan than he was in the US. Hansen went from a Texas outlaw, kicking butts and breaking necks, to the biggest superstar in both of the biggest puroresu companies of the '80s and '90s, NJPW and AJPW. Still remembered as a big time brawler, recognizable by his hard-hitting matches with just about every major star of the three decades that he wrestled in. From Bruno, to Inoki, to Vader, to Jumbo, to Dory, to Terry, to Snuka, Gordy, Williams, Steamboat, Jack Brisco, Tenryu, and the list goes on and on and on. Some of his best matches were with the two top names in All Japan in the 90s, Kobashi and Misawa. Genuinely fantastic matches. Hansen actually had great chemistry with most of the guys he faced. Whether it be in WWWF, the AWA, all over NWA, WCW, All Japan, New Japan, WWC... it always resulted in a big fight feel when you saw the Texan walk in. And I can't talk about Hansen and the chemistry he had with others, without talking about his tag team with Bruiser Brody. He and Brody had some fantastic battles with all of the big teams in Japan. Two of the largest, both literally and figuratively, wrestlers in the world, reeking havoc from pillar to post. And two of the coolest wrestlers ever, if I say so myself.. Every Hansen match was a spectacle, literally. No one had ever seen the amount of brute force and vicious beatdowns in wrestling like that before. "Blind as a bat" would be one way to describe him, as he couldn't really see well without his glasses so, being afraid he would miss a strike, he decided to just go all in with everything he threw. He won the Triple Crown title more than any other foreigner, he won the PWF title (one of the three crowns) more than any other foreigner, won the US title in WCW by ended Luger's record-setting title reign, won the AWA World title from Rick Martel, had every title from every major promotion in the world. All but in WWE, though he was inducted into its Hall of Fame. And how couldn't he have been, he is a legend of the sport. There will never be another Stan Hansen because nobody could look like him, walk like him, talk like him, work like him. Long live the Western Lariat!
