The National Water Harvesting and Storage Authority is implementing the Lamu West Flood Control Earth Dyke Project in Didewaride, Witu Division, Lamu County. The project aims to reduce flooding impacts on homes, farms, roads, and grazing land. Flooding in this area affects about 2,100 households, over 10,000 livestock, 50,000 acres of grazing land, one market, and two schools. Heavy rains often cut off the Witu to Didewaride road, limiting movement and access to services by community. The project is 98 percent complete. Completed works include site clearance, dyke construction, stone pitching, tree planting, installation of project signposts, and community sensitization meetings. A valve gate and culvert are in place to manage water flow and address concerns from nearby homesteads. The work supports safer living conditions, protected livelihoods, and improved access for the Didewaride community. We remain committed to working with the community to support long term flood control. #NWHSA #FloodControl #WaterManagement #ClimateResilience #LamuCounty #WituDivision #Didewaride
