Meet Lucy, the shelter rescue pup who was adopted by the perfect forever family, who has never given up on her despite some big challenges. We are Lucy's 3rd Training Program, and the first to understand that she has some complex things going on that deem her a "special needs" dog. The biggest issue was a suspected "trauma induced" neurological issue that caused more problems than Lucy just being "uncoordinated", but rather, unable to function as a "normal" dog. We don't know Lucy's history or if she had any head trauma such as being hit or shaken, or if it was genetic, but Lucy certainly presents as a dog with unknown head injury which caused major imbalance and un-coordination. Lucy was also diagnosed with "Allergies" about 10 days prior to her Adventure Camp, and while she had been given a Cytopoint injection, antibiotics for 2 weeks and eye ointments, there was no real reason for her swollen eyes, inflamed skin and massive inflammation in her ears causing hearing impairment upon her first day of Adventure Camp. Lucy's trainer took her off of all "chicken / poultry" products within the first few days, and this helped Lucy significantly as her eyes went from red and puffy to "outlined with dark eyeliner" and her hearing improved as the swelling went down in her ears. She also gained much relief as her skin felt less itchy because Lucy spent her first few days scratching at her skin as if she was on fire... even after allergy shot and antibiotics. This amazing dog went through all the "comfort zone" challenges like a champ, and came out so much better on the other side... because "nobody makes progress while staying in their comfort zone", right?!? Way to go, sweet Lucy... You made us all so very proud!!!
