An established abscess is usually diagnosed with clinical symptoms of the patients who come with severe pain in the affected area, redness and tenderness , that is the painful appreciation when the doctor fells that area and at the same time the patient will be very toxic. These evidences are enough to say that these are an abscess. But many at times, we subject the patients to added investigations. the common investigations are the blood count and simultaneously we want rule out the existing or the coexisting cases of diabetes or if we are subjecting the patient to any surgical procedure under anesthesia, then we have to rule out any associated medical problems . But to establish the diagnosis of any abscess, we try to get into the investigative mode in the form of ultrasound of the affected area. Ultrasound will tell us that this is the location or the area, this is the depth of the abscess, at the same time how big the abscess is or the volume of the abscess or you can still decide on whether to operate on the patient or iv antibiotics. There is a rare scenario where we establish a complex abscess. So we may subject the patient for MRI scan as well. MRI scan is a very advanced investigation where it will very clearly tell all the planes of investigations of the abscess cavity and also tell whether it is communicating to any other site and if an abscess is there in on area, if it is connecting to another area, it will clearly tell so that during the surgeries, the fallacies or the faults may be avoided. So this is how we may take advantage of the higher investigation.
