Welcome to our tour of A Bus Named Her - our non-toxic, healthy, happy tiny house of wheels. When we first decided to build Her, we felt what many had been feeling - financial instability, anger over the chaos that consumed our community, helplessness in our ability to feel like we had much control over our lives, and over our environment. We were both born and raised in the wild and natural parts of America, and had been longing to return to them. As individuals, but also as health care practitioners, we were very familiar with the stress and dis-ease that can result from living in an urban environment and/or a home built with toxic materials, and how healing it is for the physical and emotional body to be in the quiet of nature. We worked 2000 hours in 10 months, without a shop or shelter, through a freezing, snowy winter and a humid, hot summer, at a farm located two and a half hours (round trip) from our home. We did what most Do-It-Your-Selfers do - worked seven very long days a week between our full time jobs and the build. And though I refer to a “we”, and “we” were both equally excited about the project, I did 90% of the build on my own, and the other of us gave everything he had, more than he should have really, on his rare days free from medical school. In our case, as in everyone's, there are most definitely imperfections, and we will gladly tell the story of the wonkiness that forced our hand for each of them. Most of those imperfections, we do not consider "flaws", but rather, part of the story that makes a school bus a tiny home - something that was impossible to really understand until we actually converted a school bus ourselves. We hope this build inspires you to go after it - whatever "it" is - and create a life that is more peaceful, healthier, and happier. A Bus Named Her is FOR SALE!
