if you have a hard time finding the really good throw feeling, you're not alone. In this video I will show you how I take an athlete through a her discus throw practice progression. This is an athlete that trains with me 1x a week as she drives 2 hours ( one way to come train) she's made really good progress and opened the season with a 22' PR in the discus. One important thing to remember is that as you go through the training process of breaking bad throwing habits, often times good technical movement and positions will not immediately translate to far throws due to lack of timing. New positions are often better but mistimed and the movement as a whole is better, so you will hear me say " that was better" or "I like that throw" because the movement as a whole IS better and the timing will be the easy part to fix. So on this day Faith had been working tirelessly on not being too active with the upper body so which she tends to do from the start of her throw... (Pillar 1 -2) When this happens she can use the lower body more effectively and get a nicer sling on the discus. I hope you can relate and find some good insight seeing what training looks like.
