Other tools equipment and paints purchased from http://www.trains4u.com History The wagons were based on a Great Eastern Railways design British Rail built 52 wagons in total all to diagram 2/244 Lot 2475 40 wagons B905020 - B905059 Lot 2553 12 wagons B905060 - B905071 Constructed at Shildon Works 1953/4 Lettered LOWMAC E.K. Most became surplus to requirements in the late 1960's and were subsequently scrapped. Those that remained passed into Departmental use gaining the "D" prefix to their numbers. Of these a number were converted with a swivel excavator arm and cab for use in conjunction with electrification works. All were built with Handbrake only. No Automatic brke fitted. Some of those that made it to departmental use were fitted with through vacuum or air brake pipes, some had both.
