He died on Sept.09, 1976 in Beijing. From 1949 until his death he was chairman of the Communist Party of China. Mao is regarded as the leading politician of the People's Republic of China in the 20th Century. Mao Zedong is considered one of the great strategists of the 20th century who put an end to the semi-feudal relations that still existed in China, his aim was the "total destruction of the traditions and values of the past".
