Anyone that really knows us will know Baikaline! My absolutely adorable Baki Bitch who is the trickiest horse I have ever ridden both whilst she was in Racing and also out of it! Baki was the perfect horse to try our new bit, the Happy Tongue Loose Ring Bomber Bit. A little history about Baki as people that don't know her and me will watch this video and probably have some fabulous ideas about how I should be riding her, what bit would suit her and that she obviously doesn't like this by the way she is going! I will certainly start by saying I was very impressed and pleasantly surprised with how she felt with this bit. So here we go, Baki has been my horse since I first met her when she was 4 years old and I was working in Racing for Ian Williams back in 2003! There weren't many people that liked her because she was an awful ride on the gallops. She hung badly and was ridiculously keen. I don't just mean a little bit, this mare didn't stop! I learnt to love this crazy, grumpy mare as it was easier to get on with her than not. I learnt a lot about mares from Baikaline! I had already left Racing when she retired but I was so happy when she joined me and after so many people said I would never retrain her I set out to prove I could! I won't pretend it has been easy with her and even now when she is 21 years old if she doesn't like something she will let me know about it, we had only just put up the banner in the school and this was the first time she had seen it. To be honest it was a better reaction than I thought I would get! We have tried all sorts of bits and tack over the years and I will be honest we find things that she accepts just a little bit and I work with her. I am her passenger and I am priveledged that she allows me to ride her! Baki was the horse we first tried a Micklem bridle on and I have never looked back! I can honestly say without the Mickem we would probably still be searching for something to ride her in! We also found she prefered the neue schule bits over the years although I did pop her in a mullen mouth straight bar once and she seemed to go quite well in that at home until we got to the competition and did a medium trot straight out of the arena as I couldn't hold her!!! Over the last few years we have have the neue schule hanging cheek but she always hangs and is keen in everything I ride her in. I was quite surprised with how light she did feel in the mouth in this Bomber bit and although it is early days she was hardly hanging! People find it hilarious when I have to try and do a give and re take in our Dressage tests, lets just say if anyone thinks they can do it better on her then give it a go! She did seem to let me move a little more than usual whilst riding her in the Bomber bit so maybe there is hope for a decent give and re take yet! I can certainly say I am a little bit excited that she will continue to be happy in this bit and maybe we have found something that she finally accepts and quite likes. I am definitely looking forward to trying it with the other horses now and see what they think of it as well because if Baikaline approves of something it must be good! Now I just need to get Baki in regular work again as this was the first time I had ridden her in a few weeks. We aren't ready to retire just yet! Huge thanks to @Hire-A-Micklem for gifting us the Micklem multi bridle and the Happy Tongue Loose Ring Bomber Bit. Baki certainly seems to approve so I certainly would recommend trying this bit!
