The Ghana Health Service, as mandated by Act 525 of 1996, seeks to provide and prudently manage comprehensive and accessible quality health services with emphasis on Primary Health Care in accordance with approved national policies. In pursuit of this mandate, the Community-Based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) was borne to significantly reduce health inequalities and to promote equity of access to health by removing geographic barriers at the community level.
