Winter work continues in the vegetable garden today as I tackle a full cleanup of my large flower beds, prune back perennials, and plant a few beautiful new David Austin roses. It’s one of those real gardening days — starting windy, ending rainy — but still incredibly productive. I’m cutting back salvia, thyme, and ornamental grasses, shaping the beds for spring, and clearing everything that needs refreshing after winter. I’ll walk you through how I prune each plant, how I decide what to cut and what to leave, and why this timing matters for compact, healthy growth in the coming season. After a lunch break (and a change of weather!), I also plant two new roses — The Lady Gardener and Kew Gardens — right into the vegetable garden beds for structure, colour, and beauty through the year. You’ll see the real, unfiltered process of prepping a cottage-style vegetable garden for spring in a Zone 9b climate, from cleaning beds to planting roses that have already broken dormancy. Thank you for spending the day with me in the garden — wind, rain, and all! See you next time 🌱✨ #gardening, #wintergardening, #springgardenprep, #pruningtips, #cottagegarden, #vegetablegarden, #davidaustinroses, #perennials, #gardencleanup, #gardeninspiration
