Zell am See - Absolute Winter Sports & Après Ski! Zell am See is the tourist centre and the district capital of Pinzgau. Surrounded by powerful 3,000 m peaks and gentle hills alike, the city is idyllically located on a peninsula between the Zeller See and Schmittenhöhe, just 75 km from Salzburg and approximately 150 km from Innsbruck. The Europa Ski Region is made up of the three diverse ski areas of Kitztsteinhorn, Maiskogel, and Schmittenhöhe. 56 modern lifts take you to 130 total km of the best prepared pistes. The glacier ski area at the 3,203 m high Kitztsteinhorn ensures absolute snow security. With the lift pass ‘’Zell am See-Kaprun’’, you’ll have access to 138 km of pistes and 50 modern lifts in the ski areas of Maiskogel and Schmittenhöhe as well as the glacier ski area at the Kitztsteinhorn, which stretches up to an altitude of 3,029 m. From Zell am See, you can take the speedy CityXpress, the TrassXpress, or the Schmittenhöhenbahn lift into the ski area. Here, beginners and experts alike will feel right at home: the ski area Maiskogel is particularly well-suited to families, with mainly wide blue pistes. At the Maiskogelköpfel lift, you’ll find the longest downhill in the region, measuring in at 7 km. The Kitztsteinhorn (3,203) ensures absolute snow security, drawing in beginners and pleasure skiers with its mostly middle-difficult pistes. Experts should head to the 2,000 m Schmittenhöhe, whose 4 km Trass slope is the most difficult in the area. Free-riders can live it up in the open areas below the Sonnkogelbahn. For free-stylers, there’s a fun park in each of the three ski areas, all complete with tables, slides, and jumps. With the Salzburg Super Ski Card, you’ll have access to over 2,200 km of pistes in 23 ski regions, among them the Ski Circus Saalbach-Hintergleem, the ski region Kitzbühel, and the Salzburger Sportsworld Amadé. That means pure skiing fun on almost all the pistes in the Salzburger Land!
