This 14.5 mile hike in the Cataloochee area of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park was an amazing hike! We started on the Cataloochee Divide trail and went all the way to Double Gap before returning back to the McKee Branch trail. From McKee Branch we hiked to Fork Ridge where we finished the hike after a 1 mile road walk back to the parking area. Cataloochee Divide is an nice uphill trail that hikes along the border of the National Park. There are wonderful views along the trail and you should definitely make the short side trip to the Science Center. McKee Branch is a very steep downhill with a thick leaf bed which made the trail slippery! There is a water crossing near the bottom but it is not difficult. Big Fork Ridge had some blow down trees that required careful navigation to get through. Also there is a water crossing where the footlog bridge was washed away about 30 feet down stream. Either a sketchy attempt to cross the bridge or a walk through the creek is required to cross. This is must hike trail!
