Queensland State Archives Item ID2749782, Motion picture In 1954 the Queensland Deaprtment of Public Instruction produced a video with footage taken during the Royal Visit to Queensland that year. Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and her husband Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh arrived in Brisbane on 9 March 1954. Since Queensland was formed this would mark the first time a reigning monarch of Australia stepped foot on Australian soil. Queen Elizabeth II and her entourage of 38 spent nine days in Queensland specifically with an itinerary that included several towns including Bundaberg, Oakey, Toowoomba, Townsville, Cairns, Mackay and Rockhampton. Her route through Brisbane has been captured in this film, To Greet the Queen, and shows her disembarking from the aircraft at Eagle Farm Airport and Queenslanders lining the streets as her motorcade travels down Kingsford Smith Drive, into Fortitude Valley, down Gregory Terrace and onto the RNA showgrounds. The film then shows the parade that took place to commemorate the visit. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip stayed in Australia for a total of 58 days as part of a six month tour of the Commonwealth nations and their visit became the largest event organised as well as the first televised event in Australia. --- Copy of this film is available at Queensland State Archives http://www.archivessearch.qld.gov.au/...
