After only a few years, it was returned to English Hands before being reclaimed in 1314 by Robert the Bruce at the Battle of Bannockburn. Over the centuries, Stirling Castle developed into a grand royal residence for important Scottish monarchs such as Mary Queen of Scots, James IV & James I.
