In the ongoing three-match One Day series between Sri Lanka and Afghanistan, Pathum Nissanka smashed an unbeaten 210 runs in just 139 balls. As a result, Sri Lanka set a total of 381 runs. Before Nissanka, no other Sri Lankan batsman had scored a double century in One Day cricket. Sanath Jayasuriya held the record for the highest score in One Day cricket for Sri Lanka with 189 runs against India in 2000. However, Pathum Nissanka has now become the first Sri Lankan batsman to achieve a double century in One Day cricket. Sachin Tendulkar of India was the first to score a double century in One Day cricket, and since then, several batsmen have achieved this feat. Now, Nissanka's name is added to the list.
