This video summary shares findings from “The Aortic Root in Acute Type A Dissection: Repair or Replace?” by Arabkhani, Klautz, and coauthors. This study reviewed 322 patients aged 18 years and older with Acute Type A Aortic Dissection between 1992 and 2020 to assess the outcomes of those receiving the conservative root approach and those who receive the more complex procedure of aortic root placement. Despite the increased use of aggressive root replacement, early mortality decreased over time from 34% to 9%. These findings demonstrate that aggressive root replacement is safe for those with acute type A aortic dissection, and should be considered as the first treatment when the aortic root is partially dissected or dilated.
