After a few years of posting cookie photos on social media I grew a little bored with the vinyl and paper faux wood planks backdrops and wanted to try something different. I really enjoy the pop of color and the canvas texture these painted panels bring to photos of my very simple style of decorated cookies. I hope you give them a try! If you liked this video, please click the “thumbs up” icon above and drop me a comment below! The Four Supplies You’ll Need: 1. Canvas Panels. They come in packs of 5 for the regular price of around 10.00 at Michael’s Crafts but they can often be found much cheaper during their frequent art supply discounts. I buy the 16x20 inch panels which make a backdrop that’s big enough for displaying platters and arrangements of multiple cookies. 2. Tubes of Acrylic Paint: I go with the cheaper quality brands and they work just great. Again, keep checking for sales on art supplies. 3. Paintbrushes or Foam brushes: Any large brushes will do. Firm bristle brushes can add some nice texture patterns to the panels. 4. Matte Finish : This spray eliminates any shine or glare spots that your photography lighting can pick up on the painted surface. It will also protect the board from spills that can easily be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Directions: 1. Cover the board with paint and allow it to dry overnight. 2. In a well-ventilated area cover the painted board with one coat of the matte finish spray. Apply two more times allowing about five minutes between each coat. 3. Allow one additional day before using to allow the smell to fade. 4. Once you’ve been using the panel backdrops for a while you may want to add a couple additional coats of the Matte Finish to refresh any that’s been lost from repeated cleaning.
