Kicking off the Christmas railtours, Saphos Trains and Railway Touring Company each ran a tour to York's Christmas Market on 15th November. RTC would employ Ian Riley's 44871 from Kings Cross and Saphos used SNG Loco Trust A4 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' from Peterborough. Both trains are first seen at Swayfield on Stoke Bank. The A4 comes surging up the gradient on the Down Fast. 60007 races past at 67mph launching the 12 coach train up the remaining 4 miles of 1-in-200 to Stoke Tunnel. By contrast, 44871's climb was much more lacklustre. Running 46 minutes late, the Five gingerly rumbles over bridge 221 on the slow line. On the return Sir Nigel is seen at Retford. Following on from the shortened water stop at Ranskill Loop, 60007 is heard working hard to keep to the timings. The exhaust reverberates around the line as the train accelerates through the station at 64mph. Unfortunately the train would later suffer from a clogged spark arrestor, leading to the train reaching Peterborough over 2 hours late. Timestamps: 00:00 - 60007, Swayfield 01:16 - 44871, Swayfield 01:51 - 60007, Retford Filmed on a Panasonic HC-X1500 with an AudioTechnica AT8024 microphone. Enjoy.
