This Friday’s sermon reminded us that Islam is a religion of collective responsibility, not individual isolation. Allah commands the believers to cooperate in righteousness and piety, while firmly rejecting any cooperation in sin, injustice, or transgression (Al-Ma’idah 5:2). The Qur’an repeatedly describes the believers as allies of one another—men and women together—who establish prayer, give zakah, obey Allah and His Messenger, and actively enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong (At-Tawbah 9:71). This role is not optional; it is what makes this Ummah the best nation raised for mankind (Al-Imran 110). Surah Al-Asr teaches that humanity is in loss unless four conditions are met: true faith, righteous action, advising one another to truth, and advising one another to patience. Guidance and perseverance are therefore shared duties, not private matters. The Prophet ﷺ illustrated this unity with powerful images: believers are like a solid building, strengthening one another, and like a single body, where the pain of one part is felt by all. True brotherhood means empathy, support, and responsibility, especially during hardship. Charity in Islam is broader than money. When asked what to do if one has nothing to give, the Prophet ﷺ taught that helping with skills, effort, or service is also charity. Relieving a believer’s hardship in this world brings relief from hardship on the Day of Judgment. Supporting one another includes standing against oppression, even when the oppressor is one of us. Preventing wrongdoing is not betrayal—it is true loyalty. The Qur’an commands justice, reconciliation, and fairness when conflict arises, for Allah loves those who act justly (Al-Hujurat 49:9). Finally, the Prophet ﷺ taught that reconciling between people is greater in rank than many voluntary acts of worship, because division destroys faith itself. True belief is only complete when we love for our brothers and sisters what we love for ourselves. May Allah make us a community that stands for truth, justice, mercy, and unity—supporting one another for His sake alone. #FridayKhutbah #JummahReminder #ChiswickMosque #ChiswickLondon #UnityInIslam #CooperateInGood #UmmahUnity #EnjoinGood #IslamicValues #CommunityStrength #BrotherhoodInIslam #SocialJusticeInIslam #IslamAndCompassion #ServingHumanity #IslamicReminders #LondonMuslims #FaithInAction #MercyAndJustice #PropheticGuidance #DeenAndCommunity
