Dodecahedron is the debut EP by The Electric Corners, released in 2015. It is their first release overall, and it was not intended for the project, but it has been retroactively catalogued as an Electric Corners release as it is largely credited with beginning the chain of events which led up to their first studio album and the establishment of the band. In mid-2015, Alexandre Banks' Evanston project, historically grounded in acoustic instrumentation, was beginning to explore electronic music via the use of digital modular synthesizers on a desktop computer. This led to the 'Shapes' series, in which releases like Cube, Sphere and Pyramid contained explorations into long-form experimental electronica, increasingly incorporating more accessible elements. This EP was initially recorded as a spinoff, along with a much longer full-length album and an additional project called "Lounge". The album appears to have been lost in its entirety, but several tracks from this EP were saved. However, a few tracks appeared to have been completely lost by 2020, prompting Banks to recreate them with The Electric Corners' setup at that time. For this reason, parts of the EP, particularly its opening track, were greatly altered from their original versions. The track "The Fish" is notable in that it is allegedly the only Electric Corners song containing auto-tuned vocals. Although this may not be entirely true, they are certainly at their most overt in that song. In addition, during the recording of The Electric Corners' second studio album Murder By Xylophone the following year, it was believed that this EP had been lost in its entirety, so one of the tracks was titled Dodecahedron to replace the title track from this release. By the time it was re-discovered some years later, there were at least two Electric Corners songs named Dodecahedron, leading to further confusion between them. Stylistically, this album contains electronic, experimental and loop-based dance music, with influences from funk, jazz, power pop and other genres. It characterizes the "electronic" era of the band in its near-total lack of live recording and exceedingly short average track length. It was also created during the period when Banks was the only band member and it was effectively a solo project; others wouldn't join until over a year later. Dodecahedron features Alexandre Banks on MIDI programming, samples and vocals. It was initially recorded and released in August 2015, and partially re-recorded in June 2020. Track listing: 1.
