Two genre defining bikes, the Canyon Lux Trail and YT Izzo are built for pure speed, and big days in the saddle at trail centres or long distance trails. They’re modern XC bikes, albeit without the bone-jarring ride: softened around the edges with proper tyres, dropper posts and the mod cons you need to ride for fun. Think of the Lux Trail and the Izzo not as down-country shred bikes with enduro-ready slack geometry. And not as XC weapons where efficiency is everything. Instead they’re bikes that can do it all, from proper trail riding to epic adventures On paper these two bikes are remarkably similar, and we’re not just talking about their direct sales German provenance. Both use a carbon frame for weight saving, and both clock in around the £3k pricepoint. They’re short travel bikes, with 115-130mm travel on offer, and both use Fox Performance level shocks and forks to smooth out the trails. That’s where the similarities end though, because no matter how closely matched they are on the webpages, their suspension characteristics, frame feel, and sheer real world livability are divergent. As is always the case spec sheets can only take you so far, these two direct sales bikes have to be ridden, and tested, to sort our winner from the runnerup.
