Allah, the Exalted, is the Creator and Owner of the universe. He sent human to earth as His vicegerents (khalifatullah) so he may cultivate Divine attributes within themselves and, through the exercise of their intellect and free will, ascend to the exalted status of “Ashraf al-Makhluqat” (the noblest of creations) by worshipping Him. However, if human misuses this Divine trust, enslaving himself to desires and treading the path of Satan, he descends to the lowest of the low, becoming worse than animals. The journey to become a Khalifatullah is not merely about individual reform or fulfilling personal responsibilities, it also necessitates the establishment of a society based on justice and equity—one that fosters an environment where humans can thrive as divine representatives. This is the sole purpose that Allah has sent His prophets and revealed heavenly scriptures. We have certainly sent Our messengers with clear proofs, and We sent down with them the Scripture and the balance that the people may maintain their affairs in justice.” (Surah Al-Hadid, 25) To fulfill this divine mission, the Pride of the Universe, the Chief of Prophets ﷺ, laid the foundation of an Islamic state in Madinah Munawwarah, establishing a society immersed in the remembrance of Allah and embodying the highest human values. This society became the cornerstone of Islamic civilization, guiding humanity collectively toward divine proximity. During this era, human civilization manifested such profound excellence that, as the martyr-philosopher Shahid Mutahhari noted, Allah swore by this era in Surah Al-Asr.” After the Prophet , to ensure the continuity of this divinely guided societal movement, he handed down an infallible formula: adherence to the Thaqalayn—the Quran and the Ahl al-Bayt (the Prophet’s purified progeny). Despite the political authority rarely being in the hands of the Ahl al-Bayt (عليهم السلام), they strategized meticulously in their respective time frame to keep Islamic society on the path of perfection. Ultimately, Allah’s noble representatives foretold that the final Imam from the Ahl al-Bayt, the Savior of humanity—Imam Mahdi (عجل الله فرجه)—will emerge from occultation to revive the glorious civilization established by the Last Prophet ﷺ in Madinah. He will fill the world with justice and equity, just as it will be steeped in oppression and tyranny.
