Hello everyone, I’m Richard Pearson, Executive Director of the Illinois State Rifle Association (ISRA) — your voice for the Second Amendment here in Illinois and across America. This update covers six major ISRA lawsuits that are shaping the future of gun rights in our state. Every one of these cases represents real people — law-abiding citizens — standing up against unconstitutional overreach. 1️⃣ Meyer v. Raoul — We’re fighting to restore the rights of 18- to 20-year-olds to obtain a concealed carry license. The case is fully briefed, and we’re awaiting a ruling. Courts in other states have already ruled that age-based carry bans are unconstitutional — and we’re optimistic Illinois will follow suit. 2️⃣ Miller v. Smith — We’re defending the rights of foster parents and home daycare providers who have been wrongly stripped of their ability to own and possess firearms. This case is also awaiting a federal ruling. 3️⃣ Harrel v. Raoul — Our flagship case challenging the so-called “Protect Illinois Communities Act” (PICA) — the assault weapons ban and large-capacity magazine ban. Oral arguments have concluded in the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals, and we are standing ready to take this case all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court if necessary. 4️⃣ Schoenthal v. Raoul — We’re fighting the unconstitutional concealed carry ban on public transportation. The Seventh Circuit ruled against us, but this battle is far from over — our petition to the Supreme Court will be filed in early December 2025. 5️⃣ Kuhlman v. Hines — This case challenges Illinois’ misuse of “clear and present danger” reports, which violate due process and Second Amendment rights. It’s moving toward summary judgment soon. 6️⃣ Brunke v. Raoul — A related challenge to the same “clear and present danger” system. We’ve reached a partial settlement, but more action is coming when the new law takes effect in January 2026. These legal fights are critical to securing freedom for the next generation. Every lawsuit, every motion, every hour in court is powered by you — our members. 👉 If you haven’t renewed your ISRA membership, please do it today. 👉 If you’re not yet a member, join us now and become part of the strongest gun rights organization in Illinois. 💪 We will never stop defending your rights to keep and bear arms.
