The fort is a testament to the city’s strategic importance to the Roman, Byzantine, Ottoman, Serbian and Austrian empires, and it's now the site of several museums as well as Kalemegdan, a vast park. Monument to Stefan Nemanja - The centerpiece of Sava Square is the imposing monument dedicated to the founder of the Serbian State Stefan Nemanja, created by Russian artist Alexandr Rukavishnikov. The monument stands 23 meters tall and weighs more than 60 tons. The Kalemegdan Park, or simply Kalemegdan is the largest park and the most important historical monument in Belgrade. It is located on a 125-meter-high cliff, at the junction of the River Sava and the Danube. Pobednik (eng: the Victor) is a monument in the Upper Town of the Belgrade Fortress, built to commemorate Serbia's victory over the Ottoman and Austro-Hungarian empires during the Balkan Wars and the First World War. Cast in 1913, erected in 1928, and standing at 14 meters high, it is one of the most famous works of Ivan Meštrović. It is also one of the most visited tourist attractions in Belgrade and one of its most recognizable landmarks. Monument of Gratitude to France in Belgrade's Veliki Kalemegdan Park was formally unveiled on 11 November 1930, the 12th anniversary day of the end of the First World War.
