I already made a short video for the song of my current Outlander video, "Lose Control" by Teddy Swims🙏🏼😎    / @teddyswims   almost 5 months ago. Back then I couldn't realize a video over the entire length of the song, for some parts of the lyrics I just couldn't find a way to realize it. I know that some of you regretted that and would have liked a longer video. Well, Season 7B has provided new footage and pushed Jamie and Claire's story forward and so I've found a way to tell the song in line with their story. The song is about a relationship that is comparable to a drug addiction, in which you lose control without the other person, lose yourself, are dependent on the love and closeness of the other person. Such relationships are often called toxic. Projected onto Jamie and Claire, much of this applies; they cannot, and do not want to be without the other. Sam and Cait often talk about co-dependency. But there is nothing toxic about Jamie and Claire's love, neither dominates or controls the other. On the contrary, they find sexual fulfillment in each other and a soulmate who sees them as they are and, above all, lets them be who they are. The love of the other allows them to grow, for even if this love is unconditional, it doesn‘t mean that it’s uncritical or unreflected. Sometimes it is necessary to lead the other person back onto the right path, to hold a mirror up to them, sometimes just to give them comfort or strength. Jamie and Claire love each other for who they are, with all their facets, they meet at eye level, challenge and ground each other at the same time, adore and desire each other and feel empty, lost and incomplete without all this. So it's clear that I'm interpreting the song a little differently than it was originally intended. This is probably most obvious in the interpretation of the verses, especially the first one. Here I focus on the moment when Jamie finds out about Claire's and Lord John's, shall we say, interlude. It must have pulled the rug from under his feet. What a betrayal of trust by these two people so important to him. You can see from his initial incredulity that he had never given such a thing a thought before. He was sure of Claire's love and loyalty and never questioned it. She had left a whole life, another world and time, her child behind for him. And even though he is emotionally charged when he confronts Claire, he gives her the chance to explain herself and begins to understand how it came about and what it did or didn't mean. Which of course doesn't change the fact that he's hurt and angry. But it also doesn't change the fact of how much he loves and desires Claire. If anything, it reinforces this feeling, mixed with the need to reassure himself that she is still his. Physically and emotionally. This is the 1st thematic approach of the video. The second deals with what happens to Jamie when Claire is not with him or threatens to be taken from him, be it through violence, illness, death or life and its sometimes convoluted ways. He loses control. He loses control of his life, and he loses control of himself, as only one thing is really important to him: having Claire with him. The idea of losing her, of having to live without her, plunges him into complete chaos. It's not that he wouldn't be able to live without her, he did for 20 years and would probably do it again, just because of the people around him who depend on him. But he would only be a shadow of himself, an empty shell. Without her, the sun would no longer come up or go down. There would be no one left to take care of his salvation, to preserve the good in him. That's probably how he sees it. I think there is a lot of good in Jamie even without Claire, but it might not seem important to him to hold on to it without her. He would probably prefer an emotional blunting to better endure life without her, to not feel the pain of her loss. But no matter what has happened to them, what they’ve had to endure, the stars and time have always brought them back together. They are simply meant to be one 💖✨ As the wait begins anew, the wait for season 8, I hope you enjoy the little journey through the Outlander seasons and the sight of Jamie losing control.
