The 35th edition of the All Tangkhul Catholic General Congress (ATCGC) 2025 brought together thousands of the devotees from Ukhrul and Kamjong districts of Manipur. The event was held at Christ the King Church in Chingjaroi Khullen village, about 80 km from Ukhrul town, from January 16 to 20. Organized by the Tangkhul Catholic Council (TCC) in collaboration with the local organizing committee, the Congress followed the theme "Regeneration and Change." The Roman Catholic Church in Manipur which is spread across more than 50 Tangkhul villages, holds this Congress every five years, with different parishes hosting it on a rotational basis. According to AS James Hosannah, president of TCC, delegates from over 50 churches attended this year’s Congress. He also highlighted that the event plays an important role for the Tangkhul Catholics. “The purpose of organising this Congress is purely evangelisation and to spread the good news of the Gospel to every nook and corner of the Tangkhul area,” said Hosannah. He also lauded the delegates for their enthusiasm and vibrant spirit despite the distance as well as braving the chilly winter accompanied by strong winds. The five-day event featured various sessions with speakers and resource persons, along with competitions like Bible quizzes, Biblical skits, choral singing, Choreography and Karaoke among several others. One of the key moments was the Eucharistic Procession, led by Most Rev. Dominic Lumon DD, Archbishop Emeritus of Imphal. Thousands of Catholics walked a 2 km route through the village, singing and praying in unison. The Catholic faith was introduced in Manipur on February 11, 1952, by AS Dominic Shomi and the first parish, Mary Immaculate Parish was established in 1957 at Chingmeirong in Imphal East. As of today, the Tangkhul Catholic community has 28 priests and 93 professed nuns. ========= Support Independent Journalism by becoming Our Premium Member: https://slp.eastmojo.com/anniversary ========= Subscribe to never miss an update: / @eastmojoofficial ========= Visit our website: https://www.eastmojo.com/ Become a Premium Member: https://slp.eastmojo.com/anniversary Find us on Google: https://news.google.com/publications/...
