Avondale is one of Chicago's 77 officially designated community areas. It is on the Northwest Side of the city. The northern border is Addison Street from the north branch of the Chicago River in the east to Pulaski Road in the west. The neighborhood extends further west along Belmont Avenue to the Union Pacific/Northwest Line. Its southern border is Diversey Avenue from the Union Pacific/Northwest Line to the Chicago River. The lively Lake View East area is home to Wrigley Field, an iconic 1914 ballpark where the Chicago Cubs play, and sports bars clustered in the surrounding Wrigleyville district. LGBTQ hub Boystown is packed with cocktail spots, while hip American and global eateries line North Broadway. Briar Street Theatre hosts shows by the avant-garde Blue Man Group, and lakeside Lincoln Park surrounds Belmont Harbor marina. Belmont Gardens is a small neighborhood that blends Avondale, Hermosa, and Logan Square on the northwest side of Chicago. As one of the fastest growing and most revitalized areas of the city, it’s taking in new occupants nearly every day.
