Chief Gilbert didn’t just wear the title—he lived it. He showed up for his community, stood shoulder to shoulder with his crews, and led with integrity, calm strength, and genuine care for the people around him. This tribute is for the legacy he leaves behind: the lives he touched, the standard he set, and the example he gave to every firefighter who had the privilege to learn from him. Though he’s gone, his impact will remain in the department, the island community, and in all of us who carry his lessons forward. Rest easy, Chief. You will be deeply missed—and never forgotten.
