Join me as I explore the hidden sea caves of San Diego: Open Ceiling cave and Rum Runner's cave. Whether your visiting, or a local, these cave's are definitely a sight to see! But remember, you should only access these cave's during extremely low tide (at least -1.2 ft), unless you don't mind getting wet! The open Ceiling cave is a natural cave, where as Rum Runner's cave was man made. It is rumored to be an old prohibition cave (hence the name) where alcohol was smuggled through the tunnels leading up to a pink mansion on Sunset Cliffs. In reality, the cave was actually part of a large park (Sunset Cliffs Park) created in 1915 by a man named Albert Goodwill Spalding (co-founder of Spalding Sporting Goods). The tunnels and staircases in the cave were actually created to lead tourists from the entrance of the park, down to a lovely saltwater swimming pool that would rise and fall along with the tide. Have you ever visited the Open Ceiling Cave or Rum Runners Cave? Or maybe you've explored other hidden caves in San Diego, or somewhere else? Let me know in the comments below!
