Saying I don’t want to get off the boat or miss home would be a lie! But since we’ve made it to the Red Sea, I might as well sail across it. This kind of structured life is perfect for mental training! No internet, plus a few unexpected situations here and there. You always have to stay highly focused! We’ve been lucky—our sailing speed has been fast, though the ride is super bumpy XD. Other boats going against the wind only cover 50 nautical miles a day, while our worst day was still over 80! Sailing with two people is a bit easier than going solo… It’s also pretty romantic and crazy at the same time. The captain and I talked about everything—from his first girlfriend to now. Turns out, we have similar backgrounds: he set up an illegal radio station, cracked dirty jokes, and got arrested. I developed a tracking app and had the cops storm my house and seize my computer… For the first (and probably last) time, I heard that sailboat crew members need to pay entry taxes, along with the boat itself… Well then, guess we won’t be spending money ashore! We’ll just enjoy the scenery along the way. Sailing the Red Sea isn’t easy—the wind constantly blows down from the Mediterranean. The surrounding mountains create a tunnel effect, squeezing the wind through. What makes it even tougher is that we’re locked into a northwest course with not many route options! The captain says the Red Sea is one of the hardest legs of a round-the-world journey. We have to wait for rare windows when the north wind weakens before moving forward. But since I’m already on board, I’ll embrace life as a sailor! Cooking, fishing, adjusting the sails—none of it’s a problem for me! This is our Red Sea drifting adventure! Beautiful coral reefs, here I come! Can’t wait! (P.S. The subtitles for tacking seem to be mixed up)
