Troy Green from Maxima Racing Oils joined us in this Tech Talk to discuss break-in oil. This is a petroleum-based oil specifically designed to help you best break in a new engine. Now why use break-in oil for a new engine? One of the key benefits that come with the break-in oil is the zinc coating. The zinc builds a layer on the journal surface that allows metal-on-metal contact without the two welding together and causing a failure. Another benefit of Maxima break-in oils is there’s no additives necessary. All you need is right there in the bottle, and there’s no need to make a judgment call with another chemical that may or may not help you. You might also notice that after using break-in oil, it comes out looking dirty – this is a good thing. It means the oil is doing its job of filtering out all the fluids and chemicals that you want removed from your engine in the break-in process.
