Authoritarian regimes like russia, china, and iran have become highly skilled at deploying these networks to fuel disinformation campaigns aimed at dividing and destabilizing democratic societies. Despite the scale of this threat, our response has been minimal. What makes the situation even more challenging is that these regimes often operate through assets embedded in the West, making it harder to defend our democratic values and freedom of speech. It’s crucial to recognize that the way we protect free expression must evolve in the age of social media and AI. The old rules no longer apply. We need to start pushing back—and there are many ways to do so.
