Microchip (Recommended but Not Mandatory) Not required by Canada for cats. But it is strongly recommended in case of loss or for airline travel. If done: must be ISO 11784/11785 15-digit type. 💉 2. Rabies Vaccination - from Vet clinic Canada does NOT require rabies vaccination for domestic cats entering the country as pets. · They must be microchipped and have up to date rabies and annual feline vaccinations. However: Some airlines may require it. Recommended to get a rabies vaccine at least 30 days before travel to avoid issues during layovers or return to UAE. 📄 3. Health Certificate (Optional but Recommended) from your vet clinic Canada does not require a health certificate for cats. However, the airline and UAE export regulations do require: A veterinary health certificate issued within 7 days of travel. It should state that your cat is healthy and fit to travel. 🏢 4. UAE Export Permit - from MOCCAE You must get an export permit for your cat from: UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE) **Link: https://www.moccae.gov.ae/en/services... Documents needed: Vaccination records Owner’s passport copy Emirates ID Pet’s microchip info (if applicable) Health certificate from a UAE-licensed vet ⏱️ Apply at least 7 days before departure. Fill out the electronic form E- Payment Physical examination Issuing the health certificate 🧳 5. Booking with Airline Choose an airline that allows pet travel in cabin or as checked baggage or manifest cargo: Cabin: Most airlines allow cats under 7–8 kg (including carrier). Cargo: If too large or airline policy requires. Airlines flying from UAE to Canada with pet options: Emirates (cabin not allowed — only as cargo) Lufthansa (pets in cabin/cargo — pet-friendly) Air Canada (pets in cabin on international flights — very cat-friendly) KLM, Turkish Airlines, Qatar Airways (usually allow in cabin or cargo) 🔎 Tip: Call the airline before booking to confirm their pet policy. 🧳 6. IATA-Approved Travel Crate Use a sturdy, well-ventilated carrier that complies with IATA guidelines. Must allow the cat to stand, turn, and lie down comfortably. Label the crate: “LIVE ANIMAL,” include water, food, and contact details. 🛬 7. Arrival in Canada Cats are not quarantined in Canada. You’ll go through Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and may be referred to a Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) officer. If all documents are fine, your cat will be cleared on arrival. 💰 Entry Fee: A $30 CAD inspection fee may apply at the airport. 8. Costs Health Cert: AED 795 (from Vet clinic) Annual Vaccine Package (cats) Includes physical exam, core vaccines + rabies, ear/dental checks, and municipal tag registration: AED 250–300 Export permit - AED 500 (MOCCAE) Cat in-cabin cost: AED 300 Crate: Approx. AED 250 to 300 9. Tips for a Smooth Journey Start prep at least 1–2 months ahead. Choose a night flight (cooler for cargo). Keep copies of all documents (digital + print). Don’t sedate the cat; vet-approved calming options only. Line the crate with puppy pads (accidents happen!).
