The city of Montreal is funding the $12-million pedestrian-zone initiative over three consecutive years to help relaunch Montreal's economy. This summer Mont-Royal Avenue, between Saint-Laurent Boulevard and Fullum Street will be closed off to traffic and will become a long linear park, perfect for lazy strolls, rest stops and meetings between friends and family. The many rest stops along the Avenue will form a long cooling route to battle ever frequent summer heat waves while art installations will be designed to provide residents and visitors with an experience of summer comfort in the city. An installation known as Partially Cloudy will float above Place Fleurs-de-Macadam, gently filtering the sunlight to form shaded areas, slowing moving with the path of the sun and a Nourishing Garden will be planted right along Mont-Royal Avenue featuring a variety of fruits and vegetables between Garnier and Fabre Streets.
