Date filmed: Sunday the 20th of October 2024 Video filmed at 11:42 Route: Marlow Branch Line Cookham (COO) Station Crossing type: Automatic half Barrier Crossing Locally-monitored by traincrew (ABCL) Filming location: Station Hill, Cookham (SL6 9BP) Featuring: @ElectraLevelCrossings @RH_TransportPhotography @SouthCoastLevelCrossings34 @UKLevelCrossingsChannel @UKLCSandT A fairly short video of this loud level crossing with half-barriers beside Cookham Station on the branch line between Maidenhead and Marlow via Bourne End. As is very obvious, or should be, one of the alarm's tones here has become incredibly fast once more as of more recently, just like it was before this newer sounder was fitted! The result is quite an odd-sounding combination that is very distinctive. For Maidenhead-bound trains, the level crossing's barriers still raise incredibly early - not too long after the back of the train starts to pass, and this is another notable feature both here and at another just down the line. Apologies if this video is 'close-range' and only this one corner is featured in detail; I have filmed other videos which showcase the wider picture here better and I didn't wish to intrude in others' shots more than necessary to get it close up this time. However, since this video was filmed, the alarm was replaced for seemingly no other reason than its unusually fast tone, as it was believed to be falsely reported and made out to be faulty when it was otherwise perfectly fine and audible. This was believed to be one of a number of these cases known throughout last year - false reports coming from others in the crossing-filming community. It was not dangerous or provided any risk whatsoever, and if anything, it was actually more alerting due to its urgent tone. A waste of Network Rail's vital time and resources, as the money it costs to replace an alarm as well as the alarm itself being far better used elsewhere. We arrived here on a 'Thames Branches Day Rover' ticket. Purchasable from GWR, it allows unlimited travel along the Great Western Main Line as far as Tilehurst, and all branches off of it towards Greenford, Windsor, Marlow, and Henley, plus a section of the North Downs Line to Winnersh.
