WATER. IT'S OUR LIFE FLOW. We wouldn't be able to exist with out it. But in natural terms not all water is of the same quality, but water will always be water in of itself regadless of the quality. Water is a life substance that mathematically is: 1 + 1 + 1 = 1 = WATER *Water has tree elements in order to exist as water: two hydrogen atoms, and one oxygen atom; and these elements are inseparable. *The Holy Spirit is also symbolized as water. The prophet Isaiah was in the time when the Holy Spirit as Jesus promises in the NT was yet to be experienced as an indwelling. In the OT people experienced the Holy Spirit, but the indwelling of the Holy Spirit happens on the day of Pentecost. *But the refreshing in the Holy Spirit is referred like the refreshing of water. "For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring;" (Isaiah 44:3) I'm sure that many of you would also agree that this is a prophecy of what's coming, the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. "On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, 'If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." (John 7:37-38) WHY UNDERSTANDING BIBLICAL SYMBOLISM MATTERS? *Water symbolizes the cleansing nature of the Holy Spirit as we experienced new birth in Christ. Water cleasning is symobolism but not the actual new birth. Why do you say this? "Jesus answered, 'Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." *I've heard at least three interpretations on this passage. Here they are: -water baptism is necessary for cleansing, therefore more or less our salvation isn't complete without a baptism -The Holy Spirit is the symbol of water clearly in scriptures (OT & NT) -Does Jesus explicity responds to Nicodemus' question? "...How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born." (John 3:4) *Jesus shows us that He answers questions that are asked in scripture. I do see how one can interpret being born of water as physical water, but water throughout the scriptures, as we dive deeper, is not referenced as having the ability to ABOLISH sin. To cleanse sin demands a permanent cure; a life for a life, and life is in the blood. "Then likewise he sprinkled with blood both the tabernacle and all the vessels of the ministry. And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of blood there is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22) "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3:6) Isn't Nicodemus questioning Jesus about his first birth which is all of humanity's birth, being born in the flesh. Our flesh birth is very different from the new birth we will have in Christ. Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God is stated in (1 Cor. 15:50) *The Apostle Paul says what Jesus said in essence. The way we all entered this world at birth, we can't enter into the kingdom of God. Also, like Nicodemus unless we are born again of the Spirit, we won't discern what's the kingdom of God either. We might have been churched long enough to know the Christian Culture, it's historical movements, the music, and moral standards, but this doesn't always equate to being born again. *LET'S BE HONEST SOME PEOPLE JUST LOVE DOING CHURCH! WATER? What about water's meaning and spiritual usage in scriptures? If the initial premise is true, then the resulting conclusion about water is likely true. Here's some bible verses about cleaning/refreshing of water and how it relates to the Holy Spirit: Ezekiel 36:25-27, John 4:14, John 7:37-38, Isaiah 12:3, Hosea 6:3 & Psalm 1:3 Let's look at Ezekiel 36th chapter to open up spiritual cleansing and the new birth experience that will come through the Messianic Savior: "Then I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean; I will cleanse you from all your filthiness and from all your idols." (v.25) God says He will sprinkle clean water on us...this refers to God cleansing us of our sins but it's not actual water as it's symbolizes a supernatural cleansing in Christ. And, the Priest doesn't possess the power to sprinkle water on you for cleansing. Water in of itself doesn't have soul cleansing properties. It cleanses our outward bodies, yes. "I will give you a new heat and put a new spirit within you; I will take the heart of stone out of your flesh and give you a heart of flesh." (v.27) JESUS' BLOOD HAS ATONED SIN: "But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." (1 John 1:7) *Baptism is a declaration of the cleaning work in us through Jesus' BLOOD because of a new heart of repentance.
