Hi everyone. It's Evangeline here at etrailer. And today we'll be taking a look at our Yakima DeckHand kayak carrier. It's a saddle style kayak carrier. It has all the tie-downs included, and you can see it right here on our 2015 Toyota 4Runner. So this is a saddle style premium kayak carrier. And what that means is from the different styles of kayak carriers, you get your J Style, you get your post style or you can get your saddle style like this, and it conforms to the shape of your hull underneath it. So whether you have your larger bolts or your smaller kayaks, kind of like what we have here, you can make sure that you get the best fit for your boat. So something unique to the pairing of the Yakima DeckHand kayak carrier and your Toyota 4Runner is that if you have factory crossbars, kind of like what we have here, this is going to take up a lot of your roof space. So if you do want to carry around other accessories, let's say a bike rack or a cargo box. This might not be the best fit for you. You might be interested in getting a J Style kayak carrier instead, if you want to consider on roof space. But if your priority is something that really takes care of your kayak while it's on your roof and is kind of easier to load. This might be the one for you. So this has an 80 pound weight capacity. So even if you have your heavier kayaks, perfectly fine with that. One thing about this is that it also has all the tie-downs and the bow and stern straps that you need. So we can see how we have this strapped around our kayak, and then around the carrier itself, you have a cam buckle at the end so that has this nice grip on it, which allows you to tighten it down, but won't loosen once you have it ready to go. So make sure to use that. And since it has that protector, even if you have it, whereas on your kayak itself it's going to be okay. What makes this a premium kayak carrier is the construction. Look at how nicely this flexes around your kayak, giving it support, but also contouring to the shape of your hull. On the top of the kayak carrier, you have this felt material. So that allows you to slide your kayak onto the saddles and through as it transports it. You have this rubber piece providing grip. So let's talk about dimensions. So we have four different carriers here. And the thing about your Toyota 4Runner is actually you have limited clearance on your roof. We'll take some measurements to see exactly how much. Measuring from the top of your roof to the top of the carrier, it sits at 10 inches tall. So that's how much height it's going to sit on your vehicle whenever you back into your garage or park in your tight spaces. Now underneath your crossbars, we have these clamps. So we have factory crossbars right now, and we actually have a clearance of about half an inch. So that very limited clearance underneath your crossbars is very important. Especially if you have other accessories, because some require bolts and wingnuts, and you don't have much clearance there to tighten those down. That's why this style of a clamp where it just goes around and your tightening point is over here at the side. That's why that's important with your 4Runner. So the kayak carrier is designed to fit around your round square arrow even factory cross bars, which is what we have on our 4Runner. Now if you do have round crossbars, you also get these adapters I use to clamp around those bars. Now let's take a look at that quick and easy install process. So the install process is super simple. I already installed 1, 2, 3 of our carriers. So we'll install the fourth one together. You just have to make sure that it's loose. Put that clamp around your crossbars. Notice how little clearance we actually have. So it's a good thing we have a clamp style and then just twist this knob until it tightens down around your crossbars. You may need to adjust these as you tighten it down, just to make sure that it can fit around your kayak. I actually put the kayak on first and then I did the adjustments, but once all four are tightened down and you've made sure that the knobs are nice and secure, that's pretty much all there is to be installed. And if you are using your factory crossbars on your 4Runner kind of like what we have here, don't forget to set your crossbars to a minimum of 24 inches. That's going to be center to center for your crossbar spread. So m
