In late summer 2025, Northern Heartlands hosted "Creatively Connected" at Raby Castle, bringing together artists, farmers, funders and decision-makers to explore how we are all creatively connected! This was the culmination of a longer project: "Tees-Swale: Creatively Connected" which brought artists and communities together to explore the landscapes of Swaledale and Upper Teesdale. Through workshops, conversations, sound walks and creative enquiry, five artists worked with farmers, landowners, conservationists, residents and visitors to connect with the land using sound, film, photography, textiles and touch. As Sir John Lawton, Chair of the Tees-Swale: naturally connected Board, explains, "the arts open up a whole new way of looking at these things...[it's] a wonderful way of bringing people into this wonderful landscape ...to learn about it". Tees-Swale: Creatively Connected is part of Tees‑Swale: naturally connected, a major nature‑recovery programme led by the North Pennines National Landscape team and Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority, funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund with support from National Lottery players. Creatively Connected was produced by Northern Heartlands with additional funding from Arts Council England.
