The bypoll in Chengannur constituency of Kerala is underway. The ruling CPM-led Left Democratic Front (LDF) sees the by-election as a referendum on its two-year-old government while the opposition Congress is keen on wresting the seat it has won all but four times. The BJP is also seeking to perform better than in 2016 when it won only 16 per cent of the vote in the assembly polls. The bypoll was necessitated after the death of CPM Lawmaker K K Ramachandran Nair in January this year.
