Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif delivered a comprehensive and forward-looking address at the Pakistan-Austria Business Forum, reaffirming the longstanding, friendly, and historically grounded bilateral relations between the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and the Republic of Austria. This landmark address underscores the Government of Pakistan's firm commitment to deepening economic ties, attracting foreign direct investment, and fostering sector-specific collaboration with Austria and the broader European business community. Pakistan-Austria Bilateral Relations and Historical Foundations: Pakistan and Austria share decades of diplomatic and economic cooperation, with Austrian companies such as Doppelmayr having made significant contributions to Pakistan's infrastructure development, most notably through the installation of cable car systems in Patriata, Murree, and other strategic regions of Pakistan. These projects stand as enduring symbols of Austria's technical excellence and Pakistan's openness to international partnership and modern infrastructure solutions. Trade, Investment and Economic Cooperation: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended a direct and sincere invitation to Austrian businesses and investors to actively participate in Pakistan's rapidly evolving economic landscape. With a population of 240 million, of whom 60% are young, talented, and increasingly skilled individuals, Pakistan represents one of the most dynamic emerging markets in South Asia and the broader developing world. The Government of Pakistan is committed to providing a conducive, transparent, and investment-friendly environment for foreign enterprises seeking long-term partnerships. Skilled Labour, Youth Development and Illegal Immigration: Addressing one of Europe's most pressing concerns, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif categorically stated Pakistan's firm opposition to illegal immigration. The Government of Pakistan is actively working alongside European partners, including Austria, Germany, and France, to bring illegal migration to a complete halt. Simultaneously, Pakistan is committed to meeting Europe's demand for skilled, internationally certified, and professionally trained labour, offering a sustainable and legal solution to Europe's workforce requirements across multiple sectors including technology, artificial intelligence, information technology, and technical trades. Agriculture, Food Processing and Value Addition: Pakistan is an agrarian economy with immense agricultural potential. The Government of Pakistan, in collaboration with provincial governments, is actively supporting farming communities to enhance per-acre yields of key crops including sugarcane, wheat, maize, citrus fruits, and numerous other agricultural commodities. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif highlighted Austria's potential as a premier partner in modernizing Pakistan's agricultural sector, particularly in citrus fruit processing, marmalade and juice manufacturing, and value-added export to Austria, the Middle East, and international markets. Mining, Minerals and Natural Resources Pakistan is endowed with vast and largely untapped mineral resources, including rare earth minerals and precious stones located across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Balochistan, and Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif identified the mining and minerals sector as a high-priority area for Pakistan-Austria cooperation, inviting Austrian firms with expertise in mineral extraction, processing, and sustainable resource management to explore joint ventures and long-term investment opportunities. Renewable Energy, Hydropower and Green Technology: Austria's world-renowned expertise in renewable energy, encompassing hydropower, solar technology, biomass energy, and smart grid solutions, aligns seamlessly with Pakistan's ambitious clean energy agenda and national energy transformation goals. The Government of Pakistan warmly invites Austrian companies specializing in renewable energy, grid modernization, environmental technology, and advanced manufacturing to actively participate in Pakistan's energy sector reform and green infrastructure development. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended a special invitation to Austrian businesses to participate in the EU-Pakistan Business Forum, scheduled for the end of April in Islamabad. #PMShehbazInAustria #austria WhatsApp: https://whatsapp.com/channel/0029VaXk...
