With recipes and secrets passed down from generation to generation, the state's street food cooks are artisans in their own right, whipping up dishes with amazing tastes and sensations that are a rarity these days. Curry Mee, one of the state's signature dishes, is an example of Penang's attitude towards street food. Nestled in a hidden corner of Air Itam lies one of Penang's favourite curry mee. A humble stall with nothing but stools, the stall is notable for being one of very few eateries that still invite their guests to practically eat on the floor. The people behind the stall are equally as fascinating—the curry mee is prepared by 2 sisters in their mid-seventies, who are still going strong and continue to set up shop every single day. Since they were about 10 years of age, they have been preparing their signature curry mee from 4.30am onwards daily to cater to the morning crowd. With the cooks' age approaching 80, street food enthusiasts should catch a taste of this unique curry mee before it disappears forever.
