part 1 of 2! this video explains the criteria for determining how long you should stay at your current firm! everyone's circumstances are different but hope these questions are helpful! in summary, here are the questions worth asking: -are you aligned with your firm's values? -do you fit in with your firm's culture? -are you happy with the quality of your firm's projects? -is the firm top heavy? -what types of roles or accomplishments does your firm recognize? -what is the saturation of your role amongst your colleagues? -are you acknowledged or credited for your contribution? -are you working with people you can respect? -what is your team's/supervisor's position within the firm? -why are you at your current firm? -are you learning what you want to learn? -are you performing at your highest level? -have you been proactive in addressing your issues with the management? not all questions are for everyone. for example, if you are at a very small office, the questions around the structure/operation of the firm might not be so relevant. part 2 will go into the specifics about these 'exceptions.' so stay tuned! :) @thenewyorkitect --- a little about me: -an architect and an urban designer with almost 20 years of education & professional experience -associate principal at a +200 person design firm where i lead multiple projects of various types/scales -bachelors of architecture: rhode island school of design (risd) '07 -masters of architecture in urban design (maud): harvard university '12
