After the Cayuse War, the Territorial Governor, Isaac Stevens, began to make treaties with the natives all around the state. He wanted to make sure everyone knew who had what. To put the natives on reservations, payments would be made in exchange. To ratify these treaties and agreements, Stevens would have to go all the way to Washington D.C. Back home, tensions were rising. An act of violence, retribution, and a misunderstanding leading to the death of a Bureau of Indian Affairs agent lead to the Yakima War.
