Maurice Odumbe became the captain of Kenya team. In a One-Day International in 1996 World Cup at Pune, Kenya played the West Indies, and Odumbe had a standout performance: Match Highlights • Kenya, considered huge underdogs, scored 166 batting first—a modest total even for that era. • The West Indies, despite being former champions and boasting stars like Brian Lara, collapsed to 93 all out. • Maurice Odumbe led with the ball, taking 3 wickets for just 15 runs in his 10 overs. • Kenya won by 73 runs, and Odumbe was awarded Man of the Match. Kenyans celebrated the win; it is often described as a “shocking win” or a “sweet revenge.” Maurice Odumbe went to dressing room and signed an autograph for Brian Lara and told him that he should remember him throughout his life. , “I asked for your autograph and you wouldn’t give it.
