The Boneyard, officially the 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG), is located in the Sonoran Desert near Tucson, Arizona. Its placement was determined by geographic and climatic factors: extremely low humidity, minimal rainfall, hard desert soil, and stable weather conditions. These factors slow corrosion and allow long-term outdoor aircraft storage without paved surfaces. Surrounding mountain ranges and the broad desert basin create predictable weather patterns and wide, unobstructed airspace, making the site uniquely suited for aircraft preservation, regeneration, and parts reclamation at a massive scale.
